Whereas,
The Board of the Samaritan Medal Foundation decided at the Annual
Meeting in Washington D.C., in November 2010, to recognize and award
Academic Achievements in regard to Samaritan Studies.
Whereas,
Professor James D. Purvis, Professor Emeritus at Boston University, in his books and many articles on Samaritan Studies promoted the research of ancient Samaritan Manuscripts.
Whereas,
Professor James D. Purvis in his research on the Samaritan Pentateuch provided to the world a special link between the Samaritans and the Jews as sons of the same ancient Israelite Nation.
Whereas,
Professor James D. Purvis was courageous to change his view about the ancient History and the History of the Text in regard to the Samaritan Pentateuch before the new findings on Mount Gerizim excavations.
Whereas,
Professor James D. Purvis always encouraged the research of Samaritan
Studies as an integral part of the roots of the People of Israel and
its original sources.
Therefore,
The Samaritan Medal and Award Committee are pleased to honor Prof. James D. Purvis as the 2013 recipient of the Samaritan Medal for Peace,
Humanitarian and Academic Achievements.
