Advocate Ghassan ElShaq’ah is a long-time friend to the Samaritan people. Born in Nablus to one of the most prominent households of Nablus, he was the Mayor of Nablus for nearly two decades. In that role, developed the most beautiful city in the West Bank laying on the slopes of Mount Gerizim and Mount Ebal on its two sides, to a combination of Oriental and European style of developed city. He has a dominant personality that helped him to lead the so involved city in politics of our region and became a supporter of making peace by being the pioneer of making twin covenant between Nablus and Tel-Aviv, the second largest Israeli city in Israel. Due to his initiatives in making peace and great humanitarian achievements such as helping to improve the economic state of the poorest groups of his city, he was appointed by the late Yasser Arafat to be one of the five-member legislative committee of the Palestinian Authority. He has continued to hold this position till today under President Machmud ‘Abbas and Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. He is now leading a big office of his own in the exclusive Palace hotel in Nablus where he is fully acting to promote projects of improving the life of Nablus residents.
He is very friendly with the Samaritan community on Gerizim Mountain and attends almost every happy and sad event, including constant participation in the annual Samaritan Sacrifice of Passover. The Samaritan leadership describes him as one of their best friends.
